More ponderings on creativity
I’ve been thinking a lot about what it means to be a memory keeper lately.
has recently been sharing how she feels like she relives the past each time she creates, and it really resonated with me.Isn’t that what makes our craft so special? Each time we select papers, choose embellishments, and play with composition, we’re not just creating something beautiful—we’re experiencing the story that’s behind our photos again, the emotions that go with them, and reflecting upon the moments that have shaped us.
I think our craft is more than documenting memories; I quote something Lynn said “I feel like it's putting our thoughts and feelings into order” and that’s a really big thing. The process itself, can be as healing and fulfilling as the actual final page we create.
For me personally, the line between digital scrapbooking and art has always been a fine one. I love experimenting to bring more emotional depth to my photos, taking things a little further than scrapbooking—being a lover of all things mixed media, these two crafts enable me to blend memory keeping and art together, creating things that communicate beyond the image itself, and all of this has become a huge part of my life.
The history surrounding Digital Scrapbooking Day
Susan White founded Digital Scrapbooking Day back in the November of 2007, regrettably I can’t trace her online now as her blog and site have since closed.
Cheryl Rutledge-Brennecke, who you may know of as ‘Hummie’ back in the day, worked closely with Susan to help spread the word about Digital Scrapbooking Day prior to it’s launch, and she was honoured to have been a part of digital scrapbooking history running a "blog tailgate party" for DSD.
now does a lot of writing, find out more about her and follow along with her photos and posts at her ‘My Corner Online’ publication.Credits for the history surrounding DSD came from Cheryl and her site here.
The tools we use
There’s no denying that there is a strong connection between the tools we use and the stories we want to tell. There’s that feeling we all know—the spark that happens when you find a digital scrapbooking collection that speaks to you. Maybe you weren’t even looking for it, but it found you and there’s something that clicks and feels good. Maybe it was a phrase or a journaling prompt that has reminded you of a photo or a story you have to tell, maybe you love a particular colour scheme, an intriguing texture, or a unique embellishment.
To celebrate Digital Scrapbooking Day all of my shop inventory is deeply discounted and I’m excited to share several brand new digital art offerings that I hope will connect with you.
I am very conscious of how busy your inbox will be this Digital Scrapbooking Day and Weekend, so I will summarise the offerings in a list and leave some page designs for you to look at that I hope will inspire you to peek a little further into my shops.
You will need to click through to the sites to read all of the notes about the product offerings and there you will also find even more inspiration.
Have fun!
